Significance of carbon monoxide smoke detection devices

Before coming to carbon monoxide detectors, first you have to say a word or two about carbon monoxide. Chemically, the gas produced due to incomplete combustion of carbon. It is a tasteless, colorless gas.

We know how to fire a fatal, so we realized that the installation of smoke detection is of great help. But what is the need for carbon monoxide detectors using other gases too? The reason for this isCarbon monoxide gas is very harmful. Therefore, there are other gases with harmful effects, so the doubts remain. Yes, it is true that there are many harmful gases and hazardous waste. Let us know how carbon monoxide can be fatal. It is said that carbon monoxide is a major cause of accidental poisoning. Slowly and deeply concerns us. We breathe the gas. Through our respiratory system increases our blood system, in combination with hemoglobin and absorbs oxygen from the brain and other vital organs of the body. L 'consequences can be severe and at the same time fatal. Temporary or permanent memory loss no death can occur. While families can ensure the safety of our fire, smoke detectors, such detectors are available on the market for safety against carbon monoxide gas. These devices are known as carbon monoxide detectors, and today they really need.

CO detectors as standardsmoke detectors, but are equipped with special sensors that can detect the presence of carbon monoxide in the area. Usually you can reach the level of CO gas and that when the level exceeds the level of danger, give warnings. On how to get these warnings, we can take the necessary steps to that level under the sign of danger and take our families and give us a better life without risks.

How Do Wireless Home Security Alarm Systems Work?

Owning a home is a wonderful feeling. It is your home you can do with it as you want. Decorate it. Make improvements to it. Alter the layout and configuration. You now have a place a place for your family to call their own and to keep your belongings.

Most homeowners feel secure in their home. The exterior doors have locks and dead bolt locks on them. Some homes have steel exterior doors. These things make the home more secure; however, not as well as you might think.

Insuring that the house, and the people inside of it, is protected is important. It doesn't matter where the house is located. It doesn't even matter if the home is in a rural setting. Any house that has no deterrent to someone breaking in and stealing or harming a family member is asking for trouble.

What can the homeowner do to protect family and assets?

Consider installing a home security alarm. In the past having a security system installed required having cables pulled all over the house. Having the installers drill holes in the wall cavity to pull wires to each door, window, and sensor in the house. You have to move your furniture out of the installer's way. Even the most careful and thoughtful installer will still make a mess that you have to clean up.

There is now available to a homeowner a wireless home security alarm. That means that there doesn't need to be wires all over the house for the system to work.

Wireless home security alarm, the easier way to protect your home.

The wireless home security alarm is still monitored around the clock. In the event of a break in or fire the monitoring company will call the police or fire department as needed.

The alarm will still sound off so someone knows that there is an alarm. This is great because if the loud alarm sounds and it will most likely send the intruder running away.

Wireless Home Security Alarm Options

With any new wireless home security alarm comes many options for the homeowner to consider.

Have alarm system secure the doors and windows.Installing glass breakage detectors.
Installing motion detectors in the major spaces in the house.
Wireless security cameras around the perimeter of the house.
Have the alarm system actively monitored?
Integrate the smoke / fire detectors into the alarm system.
Another significant décor item is the alarm interface panel. You will need to decide where to have it installed so that you have enough time to disarm the alarm system before it thinks you are an intruder.

Many new panels are nice enough that they won't look cheap in the house. Consider the many options available and take some time to decide on what is best for the home and family.

A wireless home security alarm system offers home owners many different choices and options with minimal installation mess and hassle. Wireless alarm systems by their nature can be easily expanded and additional security devices added to the alarm system. A wireless home security alarm will give the home owner peace of mind and protect all assets including the most valuable thing in the house: the family.

Monitoring Your Driveway with Wireless Alarms

Those of you who want to protect your home from possible annoyances and intrusions, never miss out on a home delivery, or always be aware of someone coming up your driveway - should invest in a wireless driveway alarm. There are a variety of different styles with each one offering you a truly unique way to keep up with what's going on around your property.

You can get either wireless or handheld models which vary in detection ranges, from the average 1,000 feet for small driveways to the larger driveways, which span 2 miles or more. The one I use is a wireless Voice Alert System. It has the 1000- foot range in open space and I can record my own alerts. I have an alert for my patio, another alert for someone coming in my driveway, and then a special alert to signal that my child is getting near the swimming pool. Some models will warn you of visitors with tones, while others use the recorded messages like mine. My cousin has a Driveway Patrol that has a 400-foot range. It only requires a few batteries and is easy to install. He purchased two for way under a hundred dollars. It is perfect for where he lives.

All types of wireless driveway alarms feature a receiver and a transmitter. The transmitter detects any presence in your driveway. Normally through infrared equipment, you are notified through the receiver. Most models will allow you to speak through the receiver, transmitting your voice through the transmitter. Your voice might be all it takes to turn unwanted visitors in the other direction.

Even though the technical name is "wireless driveway alarm", there are several uses for this technology. You can install the equipment in your yard, out of plain view, or even use the system as an intercom for anyone who pulls up to your gate. You can also install the system on your roof, or just use it strategically around your property. There are several uses for wireless systems, although the intention is to alert you when there is any type of human presence or movement on your property.

When you set up your wireless driveway system, you should always place it somewhere where it isn't easy to see. You don't want someone who visits your property to have plain view of your equipment, as it can easily give you away. Instead, you want to make sure that you are alert of any visitors, yet they aren't aware that you are using any type of alarms.

Depending on how much money you have to spend, the systems that you can choose from will vary. There are simple wireless driveway alarms out there, yet there are also systems that can do just about anything you want. If you live in a suburban area, you may want to go with a standard wireless alarm. Standard alarms are best for this type of neighborhood. They are known for easy installation and immediate alerting. Another great thing about these types of systems is you can act immediately without having to physically be in touch with the receiver.

All in all, wireless driveway alarms are a great security measure for anyone who owns a home and wants to protect themselves from unwanted visitors. The self installation types will come with instructions as well, so you shouldn't encounter any problems. Even if you've never used them before - wireless driveway alarms are a great investment.

How to Find a Hidden Camera

What is a hidden camera? There's so many different types that the definition would be limited to any camera that records video or still images in such a manner that a normal person wouldn't notice the camera. This could be as simple as a standard video camera set up behind a few tree limbs. However, they can be built into much more complex devices so that the normal person would never even notice it.

Where could someone hide a camera? Quite literally anywhere! A button on a jacket or a pack of cigarettes could house the lens of camera. With technology constantly reducing the size of electronics, cameras now exist that are small enough to fit on the end of your thumbnail. We'll take a look at a few of the devices found on the market today.

1) Wireless (hidden) cameras which transmit video:

These cameras are quickly becoming obsolete because they need to transmit the video over the air, thus requiring the end user to be within range of the transmitter (usually within 100 yards) in order to receive the signal. The camera requires (at minimum) battery power. One can also easily find these transmitting devices with a wireless video camera detector. Additionally, one can also use a receiver to pick up the signal and see what the camera is transmitting.

2) Wired cameras:

Wired cameras (hidden or not) or just that-they require a wire to send the video down, as well as power (either battery or AC). At the other end of the wire is either a screen to view the video or a recording device. These require installation of the wiring and are generally thought of as a more permanent fixture, although one could use them for a temporary operation. These are more easily found since the wire would be a give-away when looking for such a device. Since these cameras do NOT transmit video over the air, a wireless camera detector is useless against such devices. A lens based hidden camera finder or an Advanced Video Camera Finder (one that searches for a small signal emitted by video cameras) would aid in the search for such a device, however, a thorough sweep of a room looking for wires would also prove to be advantageous.

3) Wireless cameras that store video locally:

These cameras are by far becoming the superior product of choice. They could be built into a clock/radio alarm and use the power from the AC power cord (which also powers the clock), or they could be found in bird houses or discrete black boxes without any cords (and thus run on battery power). There's really no limit on where they could be concealed. Keep in mind that all cameras require a lens, and thus the only real defense against such a camera would be a lens based hidden camera finder (although there are a few models with a coating that attempts to defeat the lens finders) or an Advanced Video Camera Finder. Look through hidden cameras sold online to familiarize yourself with some of the more common objects that pre-built hidden cameras come in and investigate anything that looks suspicious.

Do keep in mind the following points:

* All cameras require power (either battery or via an AC cord).
* Those running on battery power will occasionally require new batteries or recharging.
* All cameras require a means to transmit (real time) or store video for viewing.
* Cameras which store video will require someone to retrieve the system in order to view the video
* Camera lenses are only a matter of millimeters in size, thus making them easy to place in a variety of objects

Wireless Home Security System Saves Homeowner From Loss

With our economy in such a slump, theft is on the rise, as are many other crimes against property and people. I became very aware of this when several homes in my neighborhood were broken into and the entire home ransacked as the thief looked for anything of value. Many reported losing their TV's, sound systems, home computers and the list goes on. Not wanting to become a victim myself, I started looking in ways to protect my home and family.

I called a couple of the home security companies, and while their systems sounded great, their monthly monitoring fees did not! I knew I needed to do something, but really didn't want that monthly commitment. I looked into a wireless security system that you actually monitor yourself! At first, I wasn't sure this would be quality system, but for the price difference, I thought I would give it a try.

It had the window alarms, and I could add to them to cover all my windows for a nominal fee. It also had a key pad to set your phone number, at work or your cell, for the system to call you if the doors or windows are opened. You can actually program in up to six different numbers, so if you are unable to answer the call, the next number is automatically dialed until the system gets an answer. If you happen to be out of town, you can program a neighbor or friend to take the calls for you.

It lets you listen to what is going on in your home even if you're not there. You determine if you need the police or if you want to disarm the system. Since I have two little dogs in my house, should the set the alarm off, I could listen to know they are the only ones in the house, not a burglar. This is really great, since if you have false alarms in our town, the city will charge you for the police coming out unnecessarily. The system is so easy to install, I did it myself!

Now, I hope I never need the wireless alarm system, but if I do I can rest assured my home will be protected, whether I am home or away. It has sure given me peace of mind. I would recommend this system to every homeowner.

Protect Your Home Using Smoke Detectors

If there were a fire in your home tonight, would you be prepared? Most home fires start late at night, and can quickly burn down an unprepared home, and can even kill the occupants before they are aware that there is a fire. The U.S. government suggests keeping several working smoke detectors inside their homes.

Even if you think you would wake up and smell the fire before it becomes dangerous, is that really a risk you are willing to take with the lives of your loved ones? Purchasing several of these detectors, as well as carbon monoxide detectors, is a simple way to prevent a horrible tragedy in your family.

Every general hardware and home supply store carries battery operated smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors for carbon monoxide detection. Most of these are powered by 9-volt batteries. Read the back of the box to be sure you know which type of batteries you need to buy.

Purchase enough to cover each level of your home. Install an alarm inside many different areas of your house. Some communities have a service where the fire department will come to your home and install the alarms for you. This service is very handy for the elderly and for those unable to move easily on their own.

After you have installed your smoke detectors, they should be ready to go. It is good to replace the batteries in your alarms, as well as your carbon monoxide detectors, at least once a year. As a part of semi-annual home maintenance, it is recommended that you add a field on your list for changing the batteries.

The entire alarm unit should be replaced within 10 years of the original purchase. Do not be surprised if your new alarm goes off while you are cooking. The alarm is working properly if this happens, so take comfort in knowing that simple fact.

Your new smoke detectors should last for a long time after the date of purchase. Be sure to record when you bought the alarms somewhere in a household record. Monthly testing of your alarms is a necessary preventative maintenance task for your home.

It is also wise to sit down and plan with your family what to do in the event of a fire emergency or if your carbon monoxide detectors go off. There is no such thing as being too prepared. Being prepared with a system of alarms backed up with extinguishers and an escape plan, as well as two way radios for contact if separated, will maximize your chances of getting out alive.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Wireless Security Cameras

You know the myriad of activities that go on in a large metropolis. People go to offices to take care of business, shop owners try to sell their wares, students go to attend classes, and drivers maneuver the cars and trucks around-such a lively bunch of activities.

Unfortunately, a less-than-pleasant activity also strives in the city-crime. Every city has its share of lawbreakers that disrupt its peace and harmony. Crime can range from simple violations, such as illegal parking and speeding, to really serious ones, such as, murder. To combat them, each city dispatches law enforcers. Law enforcement uses the latest in weaponry, technology, and techniques in catching and apprehending criminals.

However, in most cities, the officers of the law are usually outnumbered. To make up for the disadvantage, they resort to surveillance cameras to monitor public areas. Surveillance cameras alert operators to areas where violations of the law occur, allowing them to dispatch police officers more quickly. Also the images caught on tape can be used as evidence if the criminal does manage to get away.

New types of surveillance camera are in use now in many cities. These are called wireless security cameras. As the name implies, these cameras are not connected by any wires. Standard cameras are connected to a central monitoring system via cables.

These wireless gadgets are gaining popularity. In fact, police units are installing them on several areas in the city. Too, government agencies, businesses, and private citizens are also using them.

The main advantage of a wireless system is that these systems are not limited by cables. That means they can be placed anywhere without much concern about the placement of cables. The signal is carried via a broadcast signal, which can also be accessed through the Internet if permission is approved.

Wireless systems generally use a five-to-one compression ratio. Higher compression rates are also available so that the images would be DVD quality. The downside of this high compression rate is that the hard-disk space of wireless cameras are filled faster than with a cable-fed camera. Wireless systems can time stamp the images.

Furthermore, more advanced wireless security cameras [http://www.sunsecurity.com/security-camera-systems-wireless-security-camera-systems-c-116_167.html] can alert operators by sending them an e-mail if an unusual activity is detected.

There are also disadvantages to the usage of wireless security cameras. For example, digital video recorders can sometimes pick up the signals from these cameras, threatening the security of the images. Also, if one knows the proper frequency, the signals can be jammed. Jamming a transmission means scrambling or blocking the signal so that it does not register properly in the monitors. Jamming a police transmission is a crime and is dealt with severely.

Also, they are not appropriate for long-term surveillance. That's because transmitting the signal requires a larger-than-usual amount of power, draining the battery power more quickly than their wired counterparts. Also, if they are not stored properly, they can be stolen with ease; there aren't any wires that are attached to them which helps secure these gadgets to their mounts or posts.

Home Security Protection

When it comes to home security protection, you want the products that will work to keep your home safe. Therefore, it is important that you learn about the different types of home security protection so that you understand the difference between products you want and products you need.

Along the lines of home security protection, one of the most important security items that you can have is a motion detector. Most modern motion detectors are wireless and are not triggered by pets inside or outside of the home. Motion detectors usually have an area of motion that includes movement several yards away and at more than a 90 degree angle.

Another type of detector that is important for home security protection is a door and window sensor. When placed at any door or window, these sensors will transmit a frequency to the base unit when the window or door is ajar. Generally, the base until can be several hundred feet away.

Additionally, you will find that a keypad is an essential part of a home security protection. The keypad base until will allow you to activate the alarm system, set off the siren, and autodial the first number in your programmed list. This number is generally your security provider, although it may also be your cell phone.

Once the number is reached, the person on the other end of the line can listen in on the room, broadcast their voice, and/or disarm the system. However, if no contact is made, the alarm will move on to the next number on the list.

Similarly, you can get these items as part of a home security protection package. Not only will you get the products with your package, but you will also get a service that will provide around-the-clock security monitoring and assistance, should you ever need it. Although these services are fee-based, the peace and security that they provide are more than covered by these minimal charges.

Home security protection is not just about installing the right equipment. It is also about being safe in and around your home. Therefore, you should always be aware of your surroundings and have an emergency plan for any situation so that you can take action.

For your home, you can ensure that you have adequate lighting and properly functioning locks and security equipment. Furthermore, you should ensure that you and/or your children are able to identify the person at the door before they answer it. Being safe is not rude; it is required in today's society.

No matter what measures you take to provide home security protection, be it a security sign or a full security camera system, you can trust that the steps that you do take will help you protect your home, your assets, and your family. Security alarm systems will work when you are at home and while you are away. With that in mind, the costs associated to you through home security protection are more than worth it.

Wireless Home Security Alarm System - Finding the Best Alarm System For Home

Finding the best alarm system for your home can be an extremely difficult task for a new homeowner. The choice between hardwired, self-contained, and wireless home security alarm systems complicates things and many times this glut of information can do nothing but paralyze your decision making ability.

Well, let's cut through all of the fat. Let's hone in on what's important here.

If you are looking for the best alarm system for home, or your office, the best one to get, in my opinion, is a wireless home security alarm system. Just by subconsciously comparing the three types of alarms, without knowing all of the details, gives clues about which one is best. Alarms that are wireless, have quite a few advantages. One of them is that they are more technologically advanced and flexible than the others.

Installing one of these in your home is the best way to protect you, your family, and your belongings from burglars and thieves. Another cool thing is that because the systems is wireless, it takes no time to install it and it can operate using batteries.

If the best protection from burglars is what you want, then install a wireless home security alarm system because it's the best alarm system for home. If I could make any suggestion, I would only suggest that you do your homework because not all of these products are created equal.

One other advantage would be that if you were to move, you could take the system with you to your new home. The bottom line, however, is that this system can help you provide a safe environment for your family. Choose well and remember to do your research.

Wireless Home Security - You Do Have Options

James and Jane found a great house they loved in a historic downtown area of their hometown. Everything was perfect-except the neighborhood. Like many urban areas, the neighborhood was a mixture of young and older couples restoring older homes and some unsavory characters. Police did not report many violent crimes in the area, but many homes were burglarized in the past year.

Not wanting to be scared away from their dream home, James and Jane contacted a security consultant. They were told that since their home was older, it wasn't wired for a security system and it would cost several thousand dollars to wire the home for a system. James and Jane did not have the additional money for the system and they did not want to see their beautiful home ripped apart so that a security system could be installed.

While it sounds as if James and Jane had no options, wireless technology has given homeowners the opportunity to move into their dream home and feel secure. There are wireless security systems for all kinds of protection-theft, fire flood, and carbon monoxide-as well as wireless medical alerts.

These systems have many advantages over other alarm systems.

o You don't need to wire your home to install the individual sensors for security system. This can be time consuming and affect the aesthetics of your home as workers hammer through walls to install the necessary wiring. The only slight modification would be for the phone line and power supply for the control panel.

o With a cell backup (usually an additional charge),You don't have to worry about someone cutting the phone line to disable the alarm. With a wireless system, your family is always protected.

o When the power goes out, the alarm system will continue to work for 12 to 24 hours depending on the size of the battery backup.

o You can program an alert to go directly to your cell phone.

o You can program your wireless system even when you are away on vacation. Some systems can even be connected to lighting so that thieves and burglars never know you are not home.

A wireless alarm system can do anything a wired system can. A motion sensor can be installed so you are alerted to any unusual movements in your home, including windows and doors. Another optional sensor is able to detect water leaks and potential flooding. A medical alert system can be installed if someone in the home is ill and may need emergency care.

You may think you are safe in your neighborhood, but criminals can strike anywhere, at any time. Installing a wireless security system ensures your family's safety and security.

Wireless Home Security Systems

Wireless home security systems use state-of-the-art technology to make a home or a commercial place safe and secure from every angle.

Protecting one's home with a monitored burglar alarm is a successful way of thwarting intrusions in private property. One of the key advantages of a wireless home security system is that it does not require the laborious task of destroying walls for installing the system. At times, when you nail one of these systems into the wall, there is the possibility of the wall cracking, or paint falling off. This would lead to extra costs for repairing the walls. Window and door contacts and motion sensors that operate on radio frequencies are the guiding factors in the functioning of a wireless security system.

Door and window sensors are the most common supplement to any security arrangement, since they are crucial in safeguarding anything that opens and shuts. Intruders make good use of such entry and exit points for burglary. Doors and window provide easy access to burglars, so arrangements should be made for their security. Doors and windows can be prevented from being used as entry points by burglars if you put a contact on all the entry doors of your home. Contacts should also be placed on windows that are located at ground level and can be easily accessed by intruders.

Many people prefer glass windows since they enhance the appeal of a room. But glass windows are highly vulnerable and can be broken for gaining entry into a home. Making use of glass break detectors can minimize the element of risk. Glass break detectors operate by tracing the sound frequency that is produced when the glass is broken or on impact. A glass break detector can operate efficiently in a big area and is ideal for multiple windows, as a single censor is enough to ensure the security of the entire room.

Water Leak Detector - Guards Your Home Against Flooding

A water leak could occur in your home at any time for any number of reasons. A connecting hose could work its way lose from your dishwasher, or one of your main pipes could rupture. Your floors could be flooded in a matter of minutes.

A water leak could occur in your home at any time for any number of reasons. A connecting hose could work its way lose from your dishwasher, or one of your main pipes could rupture. Your floors could be flooded in a matter of minutes. Standing water can damage your home and be costly to clean up and repair the damage. If you catch the leak early, there will be less damage and that is where a water leak detector comes in useful.

A water leak detector is a small electronic alarm that you can place on the floor or mount on the wall near the floor next to your water heater or any place else where a water leak might happen. When water comes into contact with the detector it emits a piercing alarm that alerts you to the leak.

An example of a water leak detector like this is made by Zircon. It is a small alarm that operates on a 9 volt battery and costs under $20. You can place it on your basement floor and when water makes contact, it will sound a steady alarm for up to 72 hours until the battery dies. As the water rises, the alarm stays afloat and continues emitting the loud alarm. Just like a smoke detector, the battery should be changed at least once each year to ensure the detector works as it is designed to.

This leak detector is an alarm that alerts you to disaster. It cannot prevent leaks or shut off your water. Instead, its purpose is to let you know when you have a water leak in your home so you can fix the leak right away rather than finding out about it days later after extensive water damage has occurred. These alarms are quite useful for vacation homes and rental properties that are vacant for extended periods.

A basic leak detector relies upon you being within earshot of the alarm so if you are not close enough to the alarm, you won't know you have a water leak and the alarm is sounding. There is a solution to this dilemma. Some detectors have remote sensing so you can place the sensor in the basement for example, and have the alarm upstairs where you are sure to hear it. Other detectors go so far as to automatically dial the phone and call for help with the alarm goes off.

A water leak detector made by Reliance Controls has the ability to make phone calls. The unit connects with your phone line and when water is detected, it calls preset numbers with a prerecorded message. This is a very useful alarm to have in your vacation home because the alarm will call and alert you to a leak so you can send help right away, even if you live across the country. Even an advanced detector like this is affordable at around $100.

A water leak detector is an important device for protecting your property. Since they are so inexpensive, you can place them in various places in your home like under your kitchen sink or behind the toilet. That way you can guard against overflowing bathtubs and sinks. Place on one your basement floor to alert you to flooding caused by rains or a broken water pipe. These alarms can give you peace of mind and may even save you thousands of dollars on water damage repair.

Natural Gas Detector - Selecting a Gas Leak Detector For Your Home

Natural gas is a safe and inexpensive resource for heating your home. It is important to realize though that you can end up having a gas leak in your home. Even though your gas company looks for such things you too should do all you can to prevent the leak from going undetected. One of the easiest ways you can do this is to buy a natural gas detector.

You can get a natural gas detector with a variety of features that will play a role in how you install it and how much it will cost you. To help you decide which type of detector to buy, think about how sensitive you want to the gas detection system to be. While you want it to be accurate, you don't want smoke or humidity to cause the gas detector to go off. If you use a propane grill outside you don't want it to set off the alarm system either.

You can find the natural gas detector sensitivity rating on the packaging information. This information is known as the Lower Explosive Limit or LEL. The lower the setting is the quicker the system trigger will inform you of a gas leak. It is recommended that you look for a detection system with a medium LEL.

There are gas detector models that feature an alarm system to let you know of a possible gas leak. Some of them have a light that will alert you instead. It really depends on what you would like to have and what will offer you the most peace of mind. An alarm model is ideal for areas of your home where you don't go to frequently. A light system alert is a good option for a person who has difficulty hearing.

It is important to follow the directions for installing a gas detector so it will operate properly. Carefully consider where you want to place it. Of course this should be in a location where a gas leak could occur. Take a look at the owner's manual that came with your natural gas detector to get their suggestions for where to install it. You can also ask a representative from your local gas company to come look at your home.

How to Remember to Change Your Smoke Detector Batteries

Most people will acknowledge the vital importance of having a smoke detector in their house. However, many people neglect to check or change the batteries in their detectors on a regular basis. This can put your home and your family at serious risk.

Here is a simple tip for remembering to change the batteries.

Make it a routine to test your smoke detector and change the batteries every time you change back and forth from daylight savings time. This, of course, assumes that you live in a part of the world that follows daylight savings time. If you don't live in an area like this, you can always pick two other easy to remember times of the year.

The advantage of using the time change for a reminder is that you will already be walking around your house correcting all of your clocks. Just carry a set of batteries around with you and replace those in your smoke detector when you come to it. If you also have a carbon monoxide detector, it will be a good opportunity to change those batteries as well. It is also the perfect time to rinse off the air intake filter on your furnace.

You can also use annual events to help you remember other important tasks. For example, you can use these twice yearly time changes as triggers to schedule dental visits, other routine medical exams, or review your investments and finances.

For health and sanitary reasons, dentists recommend that you change your toothbrush four times a year. One easy way to remember this is to change your toothbrush every time the season changes. You can even pick a different color brush to represent each season.

Following this simple technique will ensure that you always remember to check your smoke detector on a regular basis and you can always be sure it has a fresh set of batteries. You will be able to rest assured that your house and your family is safe for another six months.

Fighting Counterfeiting in the Electronic Parts Industry

Electronic parts and components form the building blocks of all electronic devices; our lives are filled with electronic products which are full of components such as semiconductors, resistors and capacitors. The average household has dozens of devices from children's toys to audio/visual equipment to smoke detectors, and each year we become more and more dependent on these devices.

The estimated global spending on electronic parts and components that go into all these devices we buy for 2009 is around 660 billion US dollars, so it's easy to see why it's caught the eye of component counterfeiters trying to get their piece of the pie through breaking the law.

But how can counterfeited electronic components affect the average person? Product failures are one example. When consumers buy electronic products they expect the device to last. Products that contain counterfeited parts jeopardize the consumer's expectation, which can lead from the extreme (loss of life) to giving the manufacturer a bad name for supplying poor quality products. Counterfeited components are usually poor quality due to the corner cutting manufacturing processes, which are used to reduce the overall cost price or overrating product specifications, used in devices and conditions where they would otherwise not be suitable. Having a fake component in your stereo might give it a reduced life, but a fake part in a smoke detector or aircraft could be deadly.

There are several different methods used to counterfeit components. Removing individual parts from electronic scrap and then selling them as new is done on a large scale. Nowhere in the process of extraction is a quality control followed; the old, used and most probably non-functioning part is refinished and sold as new. Another method is to use material or parts from authentic manufacturers that did not meet quality control standards, this material or these parts are often stolen during the disposal process and used to make sub-standard parts.

Fighting against this problem puts pressure on the electronic component distribution industry and the end product device industry. No one wants to develop a bad reputation for supplying counterfeit items or installing them in their final products that are bought and taken into our homes by the general population.

The electronic component and part supplying industry is taking steps to reduce exposure to counterfeit parts utilizing authorized suppliers or parts brokers or joining associations related to increasing quality control systems and the detection of counterfeit parts as well by creating quality inspection processes that check every part taken into their warehouse and quality assurances which give their customers piece of mind that their purchases are protected.

Home Security Surveillance - A Trap For Thieves

Besides being an essential part of security measures in commerce and other areas of strategic importance, the surveillance devices have now extended their usage for personal and residential purposes as well. The Home security surveillance is hence gaining a momentum to avoid robbery and theft since the prices have been reduced sufficiently due to the advanced technological success and the common man can now easily afford this gadget in order to provide a better and sure security for his home and surroundings. The Home security surveillance indicators can assist detectives, police and other intelligence agencies in tracking up the thieves and robbers.

Candid Outlook Of Home Security Surveillance Devices:

The surveillance devices that are big and easily visible to public eye are more prone to be destroyed by the culprits and thieves. That is why the modern home security surveillance devices are more effective due to the fact that they can be cached easily for example in smoke detectors, stuffed animals, and other tiny or inconspicuous objects. They can also be hidden in other nooks and corners of the house where they function without being noticed.

Smooth Handling Of Home Security Surveillance Devices:

The installation procedure of home security surveillance devices is quite easy vis-à-vis the conventional usage of systems with wires and recording apparatus, usually known as a DVR, digital video recorder. The data is automatically recorded either directly to a hard drive or on to a removable CD or DVD; no manual or individual maneuvering is required. Yet the wirless systems of home security surveillance are still easier to set up without any wire connection to the recorder. The signals are transmitted through the wireless transmitters. Some systems are so strong that they can send videos more than half a mile thus having a probable coverage of houses over a large area. In this way the proprietor can even have a ready check over a small shed or watchman cabin across his lawn. For a higher privacy check, the wireless systems operate on an encrypted data with a minimum of 2.4 GHz connection. In this way the neighboring networking systems cant pick up accidentally the video feed.

"Bon Marche" Or Low Rates Of The Surveillance Devices:

The "bon marche" or cheap price value of home security surveillance devices may include several cameras along with a recorder for just a few hundred dollars for a complete system. The price can be higher depending upon the increased recording capacity of the camera recorders and may mount up to a few thousand dollars, but then for the home security one must not bargain in monetary terms as the peace and protection such security systems provide are priceless. So if you have a real concern for your home security then the home security surveillance devices are really 'Bon marche' or cheap vis-à-vis the treasures of your home that it helps you keep in safety and in full peace.

Wireless Smoke Detectors Provide Security For Your Family and Property

Wireless smoke detectors can be easily installed throughout the home without the assistance of an electrician. No rewiring is required to install these interconnected smoke detectors throughout the home.

Linking them together provides added security for detecting smoke and fires, because when one alarm is activated in the area where smoke is detected, all the other alarms throughout the house are activated simultaneously. This enables everyone in the house to escape the potential dangers of a fire regardless of where they are in the home. Placed in the proper locations strategically throughout the home, you have the added security of a complete fire detection system.

An additional feature of using interconnected wireless smoke detectors is they can also be linked to remote locations like detached garages, sheds and workshops that aren't attached directly to the home structure. Even if you put in additions like sun rooms or additional bedrooms it's easy to expand the coverage by adding additional units. This way you cover all rooms and expand the system of fire protection throughout the property.

If you have an existing home that does not have a fire protection system, using interconnected wireless smoke detectors is an inexpensive way to get that added protection. They are battery operated can ensure protection even in the absence of electrical power.

The average life expectancy of the battery is one year. Although the battery may last longer, it is advisable to change your AA batteries once or twice a year. Another consideration if your home is wired is to install an AC power battery backup system. You can also integrate your wireless smoke detector system with a hardwired system to create the ultimate fire protection system. This is especially useful if you have mechanical workshops or other power usage hobby spaces.

Short term power outages can be supplemented with 9-volt battery emergency protection systems. Just ask your local hardware or home improvement department about how to install these options.

Most wireless smoke detectors release a standard 85 decibel alarm, which easily wakes sleeping adults when placed outside bedroom doors.

Listed below are some facts you should know:

- Most smoke detectors have a "smart touch button". This is useful for testing the operation of an interconnected wireless alarm system and temporarily stopping a chirping alarm which is caused by low battery power, or silencing a nuisance alarm.
- When the alarm beeps you may notice a "Red LED" flashing. This is a visual signal that one of the alarms on the system has been activated. It could also signal a system malfunction or low battery on one of the interconnected alarms.
- A "Green LED" usually indicates which alarm was activated first or other problems within the system that you should check out immediately.
- Wireless smoke detectors have approximately a ten year life and you'll see an indicator that warns you that unit needs replacing.
- When batteries need replacing, if not replaced on scheduled basis, you'll experience nuisance chirps and flashing LEDs.
- A unique identifier is common to each unit. This prevents nearby detectors from activating your alarm. This is helpful if you have adjoining walls with other units, especially apartments.
- There are usually built in tamper detection schemes to prevent theft of the battery or the unit. This is an important feature for businesses and other public locations
- Battery replacement is straight-forward. Most units employ a twist off mounting, whether you install the units on the wall, ceiling or any location that is ideal for sensing smoke or fire.

The advantages of using wireless smoke detectors means you can install them without the cost of rewiring your home. Minutes are the time frame you may have to escape a fire. With interconnected detectors it does not matter where you are or where the fire starts, you'll gain the precious time needed to get out safely.
